Summer of Solutions – Austin

Welcome to Summer of Solutions: Austin edition! Austin is considered an oasis in the state of Texas and is home to live music, movie theatres that serve beer and numerous green spaces.  We also have a large population of some of the most influential and experienced student activists in the state, making Austin the place to be if you want to get active and involved.

We have an amazing opportunity to gather as young organizers and help transform and build community, and that is where you come in! We have two main areas of focus: energy efficiency and community gardening. We have been working with local community organizations such as American Youthworks, the Sustainable Food Center, Austin Energy and the Rosewood Zaragosa Community Center to implement changes in Austin.

Check out a recent workday we had at the Montopolis Community Garden:

On the gardening side, we have plans to install gardens at Rosewood Zaragosa Community Center, as well as revitalizing and building community around the Montopolis WIC garden. We also plan on teaching gardening classes and workshops, so people in the community can garden at their own homes.

On the energy efficiency side, we are working with American Youthworks in the Montopolis area to educate people about energy efficiency. We are also working with Austin Energy to distribute CFLs to residents and connect people to the energy efficiency and weatherization programs that Austin Energy offers.

We plan on having many events and volunteer opportunities this summer, so please sign up below to get involved!

See you this summer!
