Chapters

We’re looking for groups to form Chapters and Affiliates of ReEnergize Texas. Click the button above to apply.

What is a Chapter? And for that matter, what is an Affiliate?
ReEnergize Texas wants to make forming a relationship with our coalition as easy as possible. If you form a Chapter, you are saying you want to use the ReEnergize Texas name and logo for your group or committee. You might call it ReEnergize Texas State, or ReEnergize Fort Worth, or ReEnergize A&M. An Affiliate on the other hand, will keep a separate name, probably because there is already an existing group that wants to partner with ReEnergize Texas without making it seem like the group answers to the coalition.

What are the benefits of becoming a Chapter or Affiliate?
The benefits for Chapters and Affiliates are exactly the same. They include:

  • Access to two mini-grants of $500 each per year
  • Free use of all logos and materials developed by ReEnergize Texas
  • Staff assistance on local projects and for long-term continuity
  • Participation in leadership of ReEnergize Texas
  • Trainings for members and officers to improve group efficacy

What are the obligations of Chapters and Affiliates to ReEnergize Texas?
Again, the obligations of Chapters and Affiliates will be exactly the same. They include:

What are the obligations of Chapters and Affiliates to ReEnergize Texas?
Again, the obligations of Chapters and Affiliates will be exactly the same. They include:

  • President or officer check-in calls every two weeks with ReEnergize Texas staff
  • Officer participation on ReEnergize Texas Summit or other statewide event committees
  • Group participation in at least one ReEnergize Texas project each semester
  • At least one officer must participate in Sprog or the ReEnergize Texas officer training program

We have an existing group, and we want to have one of our committees be a part of ReEnergize Texas. Is that ok?
Absolutely. We want this process to be as flexible as possible. Members of the committee can fulfill the obligations, and they will be eligible for the same benefits as any other Chapter or Affiliate.

Does becoming a Chapter or Affiliate mean we answer to you now?
No way. That is not our intention at all – in fact, quite the opposite is true. By becoming a Chapter or Affiliate, you will be given the opportunity to structure and participate on coalition leadership teams that will tell ReEnergize Texas staff and interns what to prioritize.

Relationships between individual groups and central staff will vary on a case-by-case basis, but in general our approach will be to listen first, identify the priorities of the local group, and make ourselves as helpful as possible. ReEnergize Texas Chapters and Affiliates will be encouraged to develop independent projects that suit their needs and desires.

Chapters and Affiliates will be required to participate in at least one ReEnergize Texas campaign each semester, but this will generally not be the sole focus of the group (unless that’s what the group chooses). Since ReEnergize Texas currently works on Power Shift, Coal Block, the Presidents’ Climate Commitment, the Texas Legislature, Focus the Nation, Summer of Solutions and more, most groups will have very little trouble finding a campaign that suits them.

When is the deadline for applying?
We will be taking applications on a rolling basis, which means that we will continue taking applications the rest of the semester, over the summer, and next fall. However, we can only support about 15 Chapter and Affiliates at this time, so not all applicants are guaranteed a spot.

To encourage people apply now, all groups that apply before May 8th will be eligible for a Sprog discount of $100 for up to 2 members of the group. Also, groups that apply early will have first choice of leadership positions on statewide planning committees such as the ReEnergize Texas Summit planning committee.
